Swedish Health Services Operations Coordinator Linguistic Services - Linguistic Services in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Operations Coordinator Linguistic Services (1.0 FTE, Day SHIFT) to work in Linguistic Services at Swedish shared services located in Seattle WA.

The Operations Coordinator Linguistic Services is responsible for coordinating operations across the SHS enterprise to ensure equal access through linguistically appropriate and effective communication services for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and SMC patients with sensory loss. Duties include exceptional customer service to internal and external customers, compiling utilization data and reports, liaising with contractors; monitoring compliance to organizational and contractual protocols within specific areas, and auditing or reconciling financial statements and invoices. Assist the Linguistic Services Manager in providing cost effective language (interpretation) and translation services in accordance with regulatory frameworks. Maintains web-based departmental materials and updates and maintains departmental intranet web pages. Assists with special projects to serve diverse patients and to assure equal access to interpretation and effective communication, and cost efficiency for service delivery.

In this position you will:

  • Act as initial organizational contact for issues related to linguistic services. Respond to questions, concerns and requests; escalate complex issues to Linguistic Services Manager and/or route to appropriate channels.

  • Arrange in-services to educate users on policies and procedures for access to, and use of interpreters, translation services and ADA assistive devices.

  • Reviews and/or processes vendor invoices; verify billing accuracy. Partners with vendors to resolve invoice queries. Provides technical assistance to vendors as needed. Suggests processes that will increase efficiency and cost-saving to organization.

  • Identify A/P questions or disputes and coordinates with Manager and vendors to reconcile invoice issues in a timely manner. Audit and/or reconcile financial statements and invoices. Conducts Annual Clinical Contract Evaluation of Services with Manager by auditing vendor’s files for contract compliance.

  • Compiles statistical data reports to track interpreter and translation services by language and costs and stratify according to specified areas of interest. Monitor utilization of contracted vendors and associated costs for budgeting purposes as directed by Manager. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports on organization utilization of interpreter services and communication support services.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare or International Studies strongly preferred

  • 2 years progressively more responsible experience in the interpreter industry or comparable experience in social services, education or healthcare, working with refugees, immigrants and/or persons with sensory loss

  • Washington State Driver’s License

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience with vendor relations and interpreter services, particularly in the Pacific NW

  • Experience working with contracts.

  • Strong background in implementation of patient safety and quality initiatives or effective communication initiatives.

  • Prior experience in interpreter scheduling.
