Kadlec RN - Lactation Specialist *Temporary* in Richland, Washington

Kadlec has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse Lactation Specialist to join our growing Labor and Delivery team located in Richland, Washington!

Shift Details: Full-Time, 0.9, 12 hour variable shift. Shifts include weekends.

This is a temporary benefited role that we anticipate to last approximately 6 months.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher degree) from an accredited educational institution, or degree in progress. If BSN or higher is in progress, must be completed within 3 years from date of hire.

  • Current WA State RN Licensure.

  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.

  • NRP within 3 months.

  • One (1) year recent nursing experience, with emphasis on breast-feeding experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

As a Registered Nurse Lactation Specialist you will perform activities to encourage and support breast feeding to Kadlec Medical Center families including inpatients, outpatients, prenatal clients and employees. Updates nursing staff/Physicians on current information regarding breast-feeding and performs related duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate and sustain compliance with the Caregiver Expectations and Code of Conduct.

  • Provide consultation and instruction in basic breast feeding routines and techniques to new mothers, both inpatient and outpatient.

  • Identify and problem-solves breast feeding problems, both inpatient and outpatient.

  • Provide instruction, written information and demonstration of the use of various types of breast pumps and other devices.

  • Schedule outpatient visits and provides consultation for breast feeding problems following discharge.

  • Document nursing interventions, patient response, effectiveness and complications.

  • Serve as a resource for Kadlec Medical Center staff, physicians, and physicians’ office staff.

  • Participate in training and updating Maternal Child Services and ChildBirth instructor staff.

  • Act as a liaison with community resources (i.e. LaLeche League, Public Health Department).

  • Conduct breast-feeding education classes to the community as applicable.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, staff and physicians.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the unit as outlined in established procedures.

  • Adhere to standard policies as outlined in department related to infection control, fire and safety, hazardous chemicals, personnel policies and departmental procedures.

  • Demonstrate annually: skills required for Unit/Medical Center.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
