We are looking for an Ultrasound Technologist for the Maternal Fetal Testing Department at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.

Location: Orange, CA

Work Schedule: On Call/ Per Diem

Shift: 10-hour, Days

Job Summary:

The Ultrasound Technologist will perform a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound procedures as requested. The technologist will also perform any job-related functions (clerical, transportation, training and cleaning), as needed to provide optimal patient care while maintaining hospital values.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound procedures on all pediatric and adult patients in accordance with department guidelines.

  • Responsible for quality assurance of ultrasound procedures.

  • Demonstrates proper diagnostic scan recognition, as well as appropriate evaluation of pathology.

  • Obtains appropriate screening and history documentation relevant to the procedure being performed.

  • Maintains awareness of equipment status, troubleshoot malfunctions, and addresses the problem with leadership and service personnel.

  • Possesses a thorough understanding of Meditech, thus verifying all procedures with correct charges, assuring all paperwork is accurate prior to dictation.

  • Delivers to Imaging Radiologist in a timely manner, all processed images for dictation.

  • Coordinates daily work activities through physician and nursing input. Recognizes scheduling conflicts and intervenes when appropriate.

  • Communicates with physician offices, patients, radiologists and co-workers in a professional manner.


  • Computer skills.

  • Verbal, written and interpersonal communications.

  • Ability to function in an environment that includes varying, unpredictable or crisis circumstances while exercising appropriate interpersonal and critical thinking skills.

  • Medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

  • Technical skills including proper scanning techniques and selection of technical factors.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: Coursework/Training - Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.

Experience: 6 months experience as a technologist in the area of expertise in a hospital setting or imaging center.


  • RDMS certified in OB/GYN.

  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Licenses/Certifications: Nuchal translucency certification.
