St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Dietary Storeroom Attendant - Dietary in Orange, California

We are looking for a Dietary Storeroom Attendant for the Dietary Department at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.

Location: Orange, CA

Work Schedule: On Call/ Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Days (Variable)

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Food Service Supervisor and in collaboration with the Chef, receives and orders supplies and equipment for the department. Checks quantity, weight and specifications to ensure compliance with purchase orders. Stores and issues requisitioned items for other hospital departments. Responsible for cleanliness of storeroom, walk-ins and related equipment. Also responsible for documenting condition of acceptable products and identifying and returning unacceptable products.

Essential Functions:

  • Orders supplies required by the department in a timely, accurate and cost effective manner. Ensures products are available for all areas of the department - patient and non-patient services. Responsible for inventory control and ensures adequate stock is available at all times. Maintains all storage areas in a clean and orderly condition according to safety and sanitation policies at all times.

  • Reports discrepancies or damage in shipments and signs packing slips/invoices. Verifies accuracy of shipment by counting, weighing or measuring items and comparing size, weight, description and code numbers with information on invoice or packing slip. Invoices/packing slips are signed and turned into department manager.

  • Products for special functions are ordered 48 hours in advance and available for preparation providing appropriate notification was received from staff. Orders and inventories food and non-food items according to established par levels.

  • Inspects all shipments received against purchase orders for completeness. Inspects items for damage or defects such as spoilage, torn wrappings, dents or breakage. Assures that it meets quality, safety and sanitation policies of the department. Rotates food and non-food items according to the FIFO method of inventory. HACCP monitors/standards are followed for both receiving and storage of all PHF’s. Documentation is accurate and timely. Checks to ensure food is labeled and dated 100% of the time. Notifies chef if not in compliance. Marks identifying codes, costs, date received and other data on special items.

  • Requisitions are completed in a timely manner and completed forms turned into department manager for billing.

  • Notifies executive chef and/or patient service manager of shortages, out of stock items and/or problems in product utilization. Coordinates with cooks, cold production personnel and cafeteria staff for continuity and availability of food for patient and non-patient services.


  • Communication skills.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate.

  • Basic math skills for pricing and invoice verification.

  • Knowledge of sanitation and storage of food items, rotation of stock and specifications on purchase orders.

  • Ability to use crowbars, claw hammers, knives, box cutters, pallet jack and hand truck.

  • Basic knowledge of computers and printers.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Experience: 6 months food service or restaurant experience.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: Some storeroom/purchasing or warehousing experience.

Licenses/Certifications: ServSafe Food Handler certification.
