We are looking for a Cardiovascular Assistant for the Cardiology Short Stay Unit at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.

Location: Orange CA

Work Schedule: On Call/ Per Diem

Shift: 10-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under the immediate supervision of the Registered Nurse staff and the general direction of the Clinical Coordinator or Charge Nurse, the Support Tech provides ancillary services in the Cardiovascular Short Stay Unit. The three major responsibilities consist of the following: 1) assisting nursing personnel in selected patient support services such as turning, lifting and transporting patients to and from the Cardiovascular Short Stay Unit, and 2) assisting nursing personnel in room set up & turnover, maintaining a safe and clean work environment in the Cardiovascular Short Stay Unit and peripheral areas, and 3) basic unit secretary duties including: clerical and receptionist duties, requisitioning supplies and equipment from other departments via order entry and chart preparation.

Essential Functions

  • Patient support services/nursing assistance: Assists with patient support services to include assistance with turning, lifting, dressing and ambulating patients in the CVSSU. Transports patients to and from the CVSSU, for inpatient and outpatient procedures within the hospital setting.

  • Room set up and turnover, supplies’ maintenance: Restocks CVSSU procedure/bedside units and clerical supplies as needed. Assists in patient room set-up according to case requirements. Assists with cleaning procedure rooms between cases and at the end of the last case of the day. Notifies EVS for isolation room cleaning, as needed.

  • Assembles charts for daily patient procedural admissions. Disassembles patient charts and places in appropriate receptacle for medical records’ pick-up. Assists in maintenance of unit daily census log and schedule, as needed.

  • Answers inquires of a general nature through utilization of phone and paging system, message relaying and promotion of good relationships intra and inter departmentally. Coordinates and requisitions routine services, supplies and equipment via Meditech order entry. Maintains and orders procedure documentation paperwork and clerical supplies.

  • Puts away equipment not in use and left in the halls, i.e. gurneys, bedside procedure trays, overhead lamps, etc. As directed, tags malfunctioning equipment and immediately reports condition to Clinical Coordinator/Charge RN. Collects, transports/removes soiled linen, medical waste, and non-regulated waste to appropriate receptacles. Maintains/monitors lounge areas (furniture, sinks, carpets, defrosting refrigerators, etc.). Throws trash and cleans areas, as needed.

  • Reports safety and repair issues in a timely manner to Clinical Coordinator or Charge RN.

  • Performs preliminary cleaning and preparation for sterilization of sterile instruments after use. Reports safety and repair issues in a timely manner to Clinical Coordinator or Charge RN.

Skills:

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Baseline aseptic technique knowledge.

  • Baseline infection control and universal precautions knowledge.

  • Ability to set priorities, adapt to changing conditions and frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with peers, supervisor, and other patient care givers.

  • Ability to assist in turn around time between patient admissions/discharges and transfer of patients.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Basic knowledge of a Windows environment computer system.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Licenses/Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: 6 months Hospital experience.
