St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Catholic Priest Chaplain - Spiritual Care in Mission Viejo, California

We are looking for a Catholic Priest Chaplain for the Spiritual Care - MV Department at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.

Location: Primarily Mission Viejo, CA and will float to Laguna Beach, CA as needed

Work Schedule: On Call / Per Diem

Shift: Variable Shifts

Job Summary:

The Associate Catholic Priest Chaplain is an ordained priest granted faculties by the local Catholic Bishop. The Associate Catholic Priest Chaplain is a non-certified chaplain who ministers to the religious, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients, families and staff of St. Jude Medical Center, placing special emphasis on the sacramental needs of Catholic patients. The priest chaplain reports to the Director of the Spiritual Care Department.

Essential Functions:

  • Initiate and maintain accurate and timely EMR documentation of all patient, family and staff interventions.

  • Adheres to department/ministry performance standards as related to scheduling and improving performance activity.

  • Works as a collaborative member of the Spiritual Care Department as well as Mission Integration activities.

  • Responsible for sacramental activity within hospital, including visitation to Catholic patients and responsibilities related to on-call/call back duties. Offers and provides sacraments to all Catholic patients as possible.

  • Leads various department related groups and/or regional initiatives/engages in activities related to church calendar year

Skills:

  • Familiarity with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Theology/Spirituality/Pastoral Ministry.

  • Coursework/Training - Completed or in the process of completing 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Faculties granted by the Diocese of Orange.

  • All Associate Priest Chaplains must have the endorsement from their Bishop or Local Superior

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: Several years of pastoral experience following ordination.

Licenses/Certifications: Plans to seek certification by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains or the Association of Professional Chaplains.
