We are looking for an Anesthesia Technician for the Anesthesia Department at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.

Location: Mission Viejo, CA

Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Evenings

Job Summary:

Maintaining direct communication with the Charge Nurse, O.R. Manager and Educator, this position provides support services to the professional staff in the Department of Surgery. Under the supervision of the R.N., this position performs safe and efficient transfer of patients, assists in room turnovers, assists in case preparation gathers and sets up supplies and equipment. This position participates in department in-services and staff meetings and communicates in hand-off reports to the Charge Nurse and peers. Under the supervision of the R.N. and Anesthesiologist, this position provides critical service to the operating room and all areas supported by the Anesthesia Department by ensuring that anesthesia machines, electronic equipment, transport equipment, and supply carts are clean, safe, and ready for service to the patient population served (infant, child, adult, geriatric). Under the direction of the Supply Resources Coordinator, assists with supply replenishment and revenue capture. PMM capable to ensure accurate inventory replenishment and cycle counts. Under the direction of the Supply Resources Coordinator, participates in the department of surgery goals to minimize supplies and maximize efficient use of supplies while keeping the service level for clinical users above expectations. Examples: physical inventories, rotation of stock, adjustment of par levels. Performs routine examination of the supplies to ensure that all products are not outdated, package integrity is intact, and safe for the patient.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates shared objectives consistent with the department of surgery team vision and values. Clearly, honestly and respectfully presents ideas, information, and viewpoints both verbally and in writing and encourages others to do the same. Listens actively and seeks to understand others.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains anesthesia inventory control system in pre, intra, and post-operative areas to ensure supply and equipment availability on a 24 hour basis. Delivers medications (not to include controlled substances) and other related items to the OR suite in a timely manner as requested by the anesthesiologist. Assists anesthesiologists with preoperative preparation of invasive lines as directed in a timely fashion. Ensures anesthesia machines, carts, and equipment are clean, supplied, system pressure checked, and circuits changed to assure availability at all times and oxygen tanks are available.

  • Communicates with Bio-Med and/or Nurse Manager, to order, maintain, and update equipment to meet current regulatory agency standards. Supports the maintenance of inspections/records for equipment related to anesthesia and operating room service.

  • Participates in OR turnover and case management: attends to patient care until excused by RN; gathers and delivers appropriate equipment and supplies according to preference cards as directed by R.N.; participates in the setup of specialized equipment including OR tables; obtains positioning equipment and assists in patient positioning as directed by the R.N. circulator; checks the function of equipment as appropriate and reports any malfunctioning equipment to Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager or RN Circulator.

  • Transports patients safely to the OR from all nursing units and within Perioperative Services recognizing and addressing the age-related needs of the specific population served. Accurately and promptly reports pertinent patient information to the appropriate person. Ensures patient comfort and safety prior to completion of transport (i.e., warm blanket or safety strap). Transports specimens and radiology films to and from the OR in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Under the direction of the Supply Resources Coordinator, orders supplies to maintain established par levels using the most effective method of inventory maintenance including stock rotation. Ensures that products received meet the user requirements. Disseminates information regarding the availability of supplies and other pertinent information to appropriate OR personnel. Communicates routinely with Supply resources Coordinator and/or clinical staff regarding the status of all orders. Daily evaluates supply reports investigating discrepancies.

  • Demonstrates competence in maintenance of Surgery Anesthesia monitors.

  • Demonstrates understanding of aseptic technique.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Effective problem solving skills.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Experience: 2 years relevant healthcare experience as Operating Room Assistant, Anesthesia Technician, or Central supply experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Healthcare Provider level BLS.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education: Associate's Degree

Experience: Cell Saver experience.
