We are looking for a Patient Care Technician II for the Medical Oncology Department at St. Jude Medical Center $5,000 Sign-On Bonus*.
Location: Fullerton, CA
Work Schedule: Full time - 72 Biweekly Hours
Shift: 12-hour, Nights

Under general supervision of a RN, the Patient Care Technician is responsible for providing basic nursing care for patients, including assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing a clean and safe environment. Performs 12 lead EKG under the direction of a RN or Nurse Manager. The Patient Care Technician is responsible for collecting and reporting of information to the supervising RN and completion of all patient care related documentation.
Performs routine treatments and procedures such as but not limited to Intake and Output, weights, vital signs, sitz baths, range of motion exercises, incentive spirometry, bed alerts.
Documents all necessary information in an accurate and timely manner.
Provides personal hygiene to patients, including bed baths, oral hygiene, linen changes and patient ambulation.
Answers patient call lights, beepers, intercom/telephone, and direct/transfer calls and responds appropriately/promptly.
Assists in the admitting, transfer, discharge and transport of patients.
Passes dietary trays and assist patients with meals and supplementary intake as directed. Assists in serving and removing food trays, water jugs, and nourishment.
Assists with patient room cleanliness/organization and maintenance/cleaning/ stocking of equipment and supplies as assigned.
Partners with physician and staff to report patient change in condition or patient/ family social/emotional concerns to RN.
Performs and documents EKG according to Laboratory and Cardiology Department protocols. Is also responsible for accurately changing patients’ bed baths/linen, taking hygiene measures, vital signs, I/O and patient ambulation.
Reports all observed condition changes to RN.
Responsible for reporting and monitoring telemetry boxes, beepers, cellular phones and gives a thorough report to Monitor tech.
Cardiac Telemetry/Step Down:
Provides observation of the cardiac monitor bank to maintain constant knowledge of any changes in patient’s cardiac rhythm or of potential and actual lethal dysrhythmias. Does not leave monitor bank unattended at any time.
Reviews and documents the rhythm strips every four hours and PRN for rhythm changes on each patient. Reports changes in patient’s cardiac rhythms to Nurse/Patient Care Coordinator.
Notifies Nurse Manager/Patient Care Coordinator when staffing requirements for monitor bank change.
Attends and participates in annual mandatory skills lab.
Able to communicate clearly.
Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets.
Minimum Position Requirements:
Experience: Cardiac Telemetry/Step Down: 1 year acute care experience.
Current California Department of Public Health - Nursing Assistant Certification.
American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
1 year Acute care experience as a CNA.
Cardiac Telemetry/Step Down: Cardiac Monitoring experience.
Licenses/Certifications: 12 Lead EKG Certification
