We are looking for an Environmental Services Floor Technician for the Environmental Services Department at St. Joseph Hospital Eureka.

Location: Eureka, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Nights

Job Summary:

Under the immediate supervision of the Manager of Environmental Services, the Environmental Services Worker performs duties assigned to promote sanitary, orderly and attractive conditions. Communicates with patients and their families in an age-appropriate manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Cleaning procedures are followed per policy and procedure manual using proper universal precautions. Use of floor care equipment including floor buffer, carpet extractor, side by side, burnisher, floor scrubber, vacuum, blower, wet/dry vacuum, carpet spot cleaner and carpet cleaner. Environmental Services staff is authorized to access storage areas for the purpose of cleaning. They may not touch or otherwise handle drugs or biological agents. All other access is supervised.

  • Waste Stream Management procedures are followed per department and SJHS-HC policy, including proper disposal of hazardous and infectious wastes.


  • Resource Utilization: Required to follow floor-cleaning schedule and show completion at the end of every year set areas. Ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are available, accounted for, and used in a cost-effective manner.

  • Safety: Helps to provide a clean, comfortable environment for customers and others by taking appropriate safety precautions. Takes urgent action and responds to urgent situations effectively.

  • Productivity:

  • Organizes, prioritizes and completes activities and assignments in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Demonstrates initiative in assisting others and performing other duties based on skill level and training orientation.

  • Quality Improvement Program: Participates in department problem solving, suggests improvements, and facilitates change.


  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions and procedures manuals.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.

  • Customer service orientation.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: Institutional cleaning experience
