St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Associate Security Officer - Department of Public Safety in Apple Valley, California
We are looking for an Associate Security Officer for the Department of Public Safety at St. Mary Medical Center.
Location: Apple Valley, CA
Work Schedule: On Call/ Per Diem
Shift: 8-hour, Days (Variable)
Provides a safe and secure environment for all caregiver medical staff, patients, and visitors on the St. Mary Medical Center campus; 24 hours a day.
Responsible for locking and unlocking the Medical Center, to include outbuildings.
Patrol all areas of the medical center, primarily high traffic areas to include the Emergency Department, patient floor areas and parking lots as a uniformed presence to detect and deter criminal activity. Be alert to, look for and report any safety hazards or security concerns
Public Safety Officer II will staff the stationary posts, monitoring activity around the vicinity, complete appropriate logs and check visitors in to the facility.
Public Safety Officer II shall follow state law and hospital regulations when performing DPS duties.
Any negative incidents involving SMMC caregivers observed by any Public Safety officer shall be reported to a DPS manager or Lead, House Shift Supervisor or the Administrative Coordinator.
All Public Safety Officers will maintain an incident log while on duty and report all major incidents to the manager of DPS as soon as possible after occurrence.
Makes necessary arrests and/or complete an accurate report when a criminal act is committed or a reportable incident occurs on the Medical Center campus. When appropriate, a PSO II will transfer arrestees or detainees to the Apple Valley Police Department for disposition.
Public Safety Officer II will monitor the front lobby area to assist visitors and secure SMMC property.
Public Safety Officer II shall take direction from the Public Safety Officer III on duty.
Ensures movement of deceased persons is in a dignified manner.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to take direction from senior staff.
Ability to deal with physically and emotionally difficult situations.
Minimum Position Requirements:
Education: H.S. Diploma or GED
California Guard Card.
Current BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Education: Coursework/Training - Attended an accredited law enforcement training program.
Experience: 1 year Patrol experience.
Licenses/Certifications: California Peace Officer Basic POST Certificate or level one Reserve Peace Officer Basic POST Certificate.
