Providence Health & Services Echocardiographer *15K sign on bonus to eligible candidates* in Anchorage, Alaska


Providence is calling an Echocardiographer (Echo, Variable Shift, 0.9 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic sonographic invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures. Complies with departmental, hospital and national standards when performing Adult Echo, Pediatric Echo, Exercise Stress Echo, Pharmacologic Stress Echo, Transesophageal Echo. The independent ability to modify or enhance an echocardiogram in defining cardiac anomalies utilizing ultrasound contrast agents such as Definity or sterile saline. Reviews the patient records prior to examination. Obtains a history from the patient. Tailors exam to maximize the Echo value to the medical diagnosis, while minimizing the patient's discomfort.

  • Required to prepare, analyze, and transcribe preliminary echocardiogram report for the Final Approval and Signature of the Reading Cardiologist. The Sonographer is expected to relay preliminary findings to referral physicians, surgeons in urgent situations or upon request. Responsible for accurately completing daily records, QA and QI information necessary to meet accreditation standards. Responsible for maintenance of Digital database, copies and report dissemination.

  • Responsible for calibrating, maintaining and basic troubleshooting of sonographic equipment. Optimize equipment and supplies to maximize department operations and minimize patient time. Required knowledge and use of proper technique when working with contrast agents or hazardous materials.

  • Stock work area daily. Will be involved in stocking general supplies and ordering as requested. Assist with trials of new supplies and products. Responsible for conserving supplies as able, and working with General Stores with their on-going product cost containment goals.

  • Comply with department and hospital safety standards. Practice Universal Precautions as outlined in Annual Safety Update. Complete education necessary to maintain licensure or certification required for job. Assist in the orientation and training of new employees. Complete Adult, Pediatric, TEE, Stress Echo and Contrast imaging competencies as requested by department guidelines and Human Resources annual review guidelines. Maintain continuing education credits to assure active status in either the CCI or RDMS. Participate in the cardiovascular forums, quarterly CVS educational opportunities and annual vendor Echo updates.

  • Communicate with physicians, nurses and other members of the team concerning patient status, diagnosis, coordination with other departments, etc. Operate multiple communication and telecommunication systems. Coordinate scheduling of tests. Uses PAMC's computer networks as needed for patient data, charges, credits, etc. Is an example of teamwork, treating all customers, including physicians, co-workers, patients and families with courtesy and respect.

  • Recognize and maintain confidentiality of all patient and employee information.

  • Maintain a work environment conducive to efficient department operation.

  • Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served.

  • Complete initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of an AMA accredited Ultrasound program (minimum of 1 year in length) or an Associate's degree or higher in a related care field

  • Registry credentials with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical/Cardiac Sonographers; or Cardiovascular Credentialing International within 1 year of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years recent full-time experience in Echocardiography

  • Recent experience in Pediatric Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography and Transesophageal Echocardiography
